Right from the early days of our “civilizing” efforts, the big sisters told our scholar group that we had to get involved in improving the natives’ knowledge and awareness. After a lot of persuasion (and… um… some forcing too), we finally got them to accept education—or, well… “re-education”—for everyone, no matter their gender or age.
