"Why are we burning timeless literature, you ask? Well, I suppose you've been in service long enough for me to tell you the truth. For that you must know the failures of the last, the patterns we prisoners of. The land of the nine provinces shattered many times before. The Xia, Shang and Zhou before were all mighty kingdoms under Heaven where the outsiders were pressured to conform the civilized standards to even have a glimpse of civilization. Its resources and manpower has no equal, innovations were boundless and our military unmatched all under heaven. And yet the weakness persists from within. 'How?', I asked non-stop. It's a question that haunted me relentlessly, that repeatedly those bearings the Mandate of Heaven could shatter internally like that. The Zhou fell apart resulting in the Spring & Autumn period, where for first time, states were organized and lethal enough to annihilate each other completely. Now I see the truth. As the Zhou fell apart, the doomed states clung onto the teachings of Confucius, I can't blame Confucius though, he grew up in a world tearing itself apart. He emphasized long term stability at all cost but in doing so he created a tyranny of harmony for he assumed mankind could wield power responsibly at the top of the hierarchy. Clearly morality did no good for the opponent of the Qin. How splendid today is when the Qin Court decided to burn the unnecessary literature that shackled our potential. There was no Heavens to punish us, or if they were real they clearly approve. All signs point towards us being the progenitor of a new apex. In times before we wrote, our people were always forced to organize to resist the Twin River's countless flood, only through dams ,which requires sophisticated organized society, did we tame the the Yellow River & Yangtze. Only then did our civilization thrive. So why not repeat this pattern of success? Unlike many who overthrow with no plan after, the wise Qin scholars came up with the new order: Legalism. Heavens it seems merely judge. Why did we expect anything else? The Celestial realm is probably more concerned with appropriately divine matters. It's up to us to bring order. The heavens only gave us a foundation, it's up to the mortals to do the rest. Legalism does away with the morale illusion, mankind's spirituality cannot be refined. In its place comes a system of two handles; rewards to the highest degree & punishment to the most severe degree! And with our new found destiny, it will be the letters of men that governs them; the law. Already the efficiency of standardization, meritocracy and controlling the variables bears immeasurable fruit despite the fool of an emperor, that is Ying Zheng, chasing fairy tales about immortality. And of course for the first time, all under Heaven are now one under the Qin, away with these petty feudal lords supposedly tempered and guided by our ancestors and Confucian morality! So I will leave you with this… Just as Sun Tzu erased the pretensions in war, so too shall we erase the old in its place, the void inherent, within the truth, we shall finally build a state rational to the inherent void of our existence!
