Orkland's old car: the Subaru Baja [1/2]
26
I have to be careful when talking about it, because old wounds never fully heal. Many years ago, I was able to acquire a used (2005?) Subaru Baja, same color as the one you see here. I was an amazing light-duty truck. Built on the Outback's Unibody Chassis, it was a delightful 4-door, light duty truck that was good on gas mileage and could haul small loads (It has a tow hitch, but I wouldn't use it on account that the engine and transmission aren't rated for hauling trailers/boats/etc.). I mostly used it to take trash/organic waste to disposal facilities, haul supplies from home improvement stores, and helped friends move car parts (that vehicle saw as many engines and transmissions in its truck bed as a small automotive repair shop 😂). I'm good with cars, so anytime I get a new car, it's always because someone totalled my existing car. This one was no different. My car was parked in a parking lot when a truck owned by a moving company backed right into it and hit it really hard. The vehicle was lost and their insurance company were a bunch of cheap b█stards that paid out as little as they could. Well, I'm on car #3 now, and while it's not as fun as the Baja was, it's gets me to where I need to go, so there's that. Fun Story: Car #1 was a black 1997 Honda Accord, and a high end model at that. Leather seats, electric everything (not standard back then), upgraded engine, huge gas tank (something like 17gal/~64l, which is insane for a 4-door sedan). It had a lot. What it didn't have was impact prediction...because I never saw the woman who rear-ended me at a red traffic light. When we went to exchange insurance information, I noticed the woman was acting weird. The insurance settlement took forever, as her insurance company couldn't seem to find her. Her insurance company ultimately paid out and, get this, my insurance guy told me that her insurance guy unintentionally slipped up and said that the reason they couldn't get a hold of her was because she had fled the country because there was already a warrant out for her arrest! It's wild that my only experience with a multi-national criminal was a woman who rear-ended my car with her SUV. I guess it's better than getting scammed out of loads of money. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
