Vienna Station in Warsaw (Dworzec Wiedeński)

26

Located in Warsaw, Poland Opened in 1845, the Vienna Railway Station (Dworzec Wiedeński) was the catalyst for Warsaw's industrialization. Designed by Henryk Marconi, the neo-Renaissance terminal uniquely mirrored the machine it housed, stretching 160 meters (or 174.978 in freedom yards) to mimic the silhouette of two coupled steam locomotives. The station was a battleground of imperial politics. Its engineers selected the standard European track gauge over the Russian broad gauge, deliberately tethering Warsaw’s economy to Vienna and Paris rather than St. Petersburg. This sparked a massive commercial boom that permanently shifted the city's geographic center from the Old Town and Royal Route to Marszałkowska Street. The western half was systematically demolished in the 1930s to make room for the new modernist Dworzec Główny however the plans were never finished the eastern half of the building was destroyed during WWII at september 1939 and finally cleared by 1947. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw%E2%80%93Vienna_railway https://www.warszawa1939.pl/obiekt/wiedenski
