真・女神転生「ケルベロス」
『真・女神転生』シリーズにおける「ケルベロス」は、ギリシャ神話に登場する冥府の番犬をモチーフとした大人気の悪魔（魔獣）です。
神話でのケルベロスは恐ろしい3つの頭を持つ姿で描かれますが、メガテンシリーズでは純白の美しい毛並みと、硬質な多関節の尻尾を持つ「1つ頭の獣」としてのデザインがおなじみです。初代『真・女神転生』では、主人公の愛犬である「パスカル」が悪魔合体によってこの姿となり、物語序盤で非常に頼もしい相棒として大活躍しました。
さて、なぜメガテンのケルベロスが「1つの頭」なのか？ そこには、地獄の番犬という恐ろしい肩書きからは想像もつかない、可愛らしくて優しい秘密が隠されていると言われています。
実は、彼が普段1つの頭でいるのは日常の姿であり、戦いなどで「本気モード」になると、本来の恐るべき3つの頭を持つ姿になるそうです。
彼があえて普段から1つの頭で過ごしているのには、2つの思いやりの理由があります。
ひとつは、「ご主人様に頭を撫でて貰いやすくするため」。
そしてもうひとつは、**「普段から3つの頭があると、人間がどの頭に向かって喋り掛ければいいか戸惑ってしまうため、気を使っているから」**だというのです。
恐ろしい悪魔でありながら、ご主人様とのスキンシップを求め、人間に無用な気を遣わせまいとする細やかな配慮の心を持つケルベロス。彼は単なる強力な仲魔（悪魔）という枠を超えた、シリーズ屈指の愛すべき「究極の忠犬」と言えるでしょう。

In the Shin Megami Tensei series, Cerberus is a highly popular demon (of the Beast race) based on the famous watchdog of the underworld from Greek mythology.
While the mythological Cerberus is known for having three terrifying heads, the MegaTen version is widely recognized for his majestic appearance, featuring pure white fur, a segmented metallic tail, and only one head. He holds a special place in the hearts of fans because, in the original Shin Megami Tensei game, the protagonist's pet dog, Pascal, transforms into this one-headed Cerberus through demon fusion, becoming an incredibly reliable and powerful partner.
But why does the MegaTen Cerberus usually have only one head? It is said that behind this design lies a surprisingly endearing and gentle secret, completely unbefitting his terrifying title as the "Hound of Hell."
Actually, his one-headed form is just his casual, everyday state. When he gets serious and enters "Full Power Mode" in battle, he reveals his true, fearsome form with three heads. The reason he chooses to stay with just one head in his daily life comes down to his pure kindness and consideration:
First, "To make it easier for his master to pet his head."
Second, "Because if he always had three heads, humans wouldn't know which head to talk to, so he is simply being considerate and trying not to confuse them."
Despite being a fearsome demon, Cerberus deeply desires physical affection from his master and goes out of his way to avoid causing humans any social anxiety. With such thoughtful consideration, he is far more than just a powerful ally—he is undeniably the ultimate "good boy" and the most loyal companion in the series.
