【キャラクター概要】 メカザウルス・ドゲは、東映動画制作のテレビアニメ『ゲッターロボ』に登場する、恐竜帝国の大型戦闘兵器「メカザウルス」の一体です。

登場回は第39話「悲しみは流れ星の彼方に」。巨大な翼を備えた飛行恐竜型メカザウルスで、赤褐色の生身の恐竜胴体と、青灰色から紫灰色の機械化された頭部・首・肩・前腕を併せ持つ、サイボーグ恐竜らしいデザインが特徴です。

胸から下は金属製のロボットではなく、生身の恐竜として構成されています。太く重量感のある赤褐色の胴体、窪みや斑点のある皮膚、クリーム色の節状腹面、筋肉質な後脚、長い生体の尾を持ちます。対して、頭部、首上部、肩、両腕には鋼鉄装甲、リベット、パネルライン、関節構造が施されています。

細長い装甲頭部には、鋭い切れ長の目、多数の三角形の牙、赤い二股舌があり、両腕の先端には長く湾曲した金属爪を装備しています。最大の特徴は、胴体を大きく上回る暗紫色のコウモリ型巨大翼です。翼を広げて空中を旋回・滑空し、翼から強烈な風を起こして戦います。

【本編での活躍】 ドゲが登場する第39話では、大星山の地震観測装置から通信が途絶えたため、神隼人が現地調査へ向かいます。そこで隼人は、脳腫瘍により余命わずかとなった少女さおりと、その祖父に出会います。さおりの最後の願いは、大星山山頂にある亡き父の墓へ参ることでした。

しかし、恐竜帝国は彼女を作戦に利用します。大星山周辺で暗躍する恐竜帝国は、早乙女研究所の防衛設備を狙い、メカザウルス・ドゲと大型兵器マグマ砲を投入します。ドゲは飛行能力と巨大な翼から生み出す暴風を用いてゲッターロボを攻撃し、マグマ砲と連携して研究所側のゲッターナバロン砲に対抗します。

本エピソードは単純な怪獣戦だけでなく、隼人とさおりの交流、恐竜帝国によって命を利用される少女の悲劇を中心に描いた、重く感傷的な物語です。そのためドゲは、恐竜帝国の航空戦力であると同時に、エピソードの悲劇を戦闘へ結びつける存在として登場します。

【character overview】 mechasaurus doge is one of the giant mechasaurus war creatures used by the dinosaur empire in the original getter robo television anime produced by toei animation.

doge appears in episode 39, “kanashimi wa nagareboshi no kanata ni,” commonly translated as “beyond the shooting star of sorrow.” it is a massive flying dinosaur-type mechasaurus distinguished by its combination of a living prehistoric body and cybernetic upper-body components.

doge is not a fully mechanical robot dinosaur. its body below the chest is organic. it has a massive reddish-brown dinosaur torso, thick flesh, irregular crater-like pits and spots across its skin, a pale cream segmented underbelly, powerful organic hind legs, and a long living tail.

its head, upper neck, shoulders, forearms, and hands are heavily mechanized. these sections are covered in steel blue-gray or violet-gray armor plates with rivets, panel seams, vents, and articulated joints. the long armored head has narrow hostile eyes, numerous triangular fangs, and a long red forked tongue. its mechanical hands end in long, curved metallic claws.

its most prominent feature is a pair of enormous dark-purple bat-like wings, far larger than the main body. doge can fly, glide, turn sharply in the air, and generate hurricane-force winds by beating its wings.

【role in the anime】 episode 39 begins when a seismic observation station on mount ohoshi stops transmitting data. hayato jin travels to the mountain to investigate and meets a terminally ill girl named saori and her grandfather. saori is suffering from a brain tumor and has very little time left to live. her final wish is to reach the summit and visit the grave of her late father.

the dinosaur empire takes advantage of saori and the situation surrounding mount ohoshi. as part of its operation against the saotome research institute, the empire deploys mechasaurus doge together with a large weapon known as the magma cannon.

doge attacks getter robo from the air, using its huge wings and powerful wind attacks. the magma cannon is used in conjunction with doge to oppose the saotome institute’s getter navarone cannon and weaken the institute’s defenses.

the episode is not presented as a simple monster battle. its central focus is hayato’s encounter with saori and the tragedy of a dying child being exploited by the dinosaur empire. doge therefore serves both as the empire’s aerial combat weapon and as the military threat connected to the episode’s emotional tragedy.
