Attack on Titan

The history of Attack on Titan spans over 2,000 years, beginning with the creation of the Titans and culminating in the events of the series. The story starts in 1003 B1, when a young slave named Ymir Fritz gains the power of the Founding Titan after encountering an unknown anomaly. She uses this power to expand the Eldian Empire, eventually dying in 990 B1. Her body is consumed by her three daughters—Maria, Rose, and Sina—spreading the Titan power across the Eldian bloodline, creating the Nine Titans.

Over centuries, the Eldian Empire dominates the world, committing widespread conquest and atrocities. By c. 743, the 145th monarch of the Fritz family, Karl Fritz, becomes ashamed of Eldia’s violent past. He conspires with the Tybur family to dismantle the empire, fabricating a story of a Marleyan hero named Helos to incite rebellion. He flees with the remaining Eldians to Paradis Island, where he uses the Founding Titan to create the three concentric Walls—Maria, Rose, and Sina to protect them. He erases the memories of the Subjects of Ymir, ensuring their ignorance of history, and vows to never retaliate if Marley attacks.

The Great Titan War ends in c. 743, with Marley gaining control of seven of the Nine Titans. The Eldians who stayed behind become second-class citizens in Marley, forced into internment zones. The true royal bloodline hides as the Reiss family, while a false monarchy rules Paradis. The events of the anime take place from 845 to 854, when Eren Yeager discovers his Titan powers and begins a war to free Eldia. The final season reveals the full truth: Zeke Yeager and Eren Yeager manipulate the world’s fate through the power of the Titans, culminating in a global conflict between Marley and Paradis.
