The Galatians
The Galatian Celts were a group of Celtic tribes that migrated from Central Europe to Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) in the 3rd century BCE. They moved eastward, first invading the Balkans and then crossing into Anatolia around 278 BCE. Invited by King Nicomedes I of Bithinia to assist in a local war before being stranded and subsequently settled in the alien environment of central region of Anatolia, which became known as Galatia. Initially, they were feared for their warrior culture, shock tactics and frequent raids on neighboring nations, becoming a regional power. Over time, they adopted many aspects of Hellenistic culture while maintaining their distinct Celtic identity. In 189 BC, the Galatians were defeated by the Romans, becoming a client state before being annexed in 25 BC, Galatia. Despite this, Galatian Celtic identity persisted for centuries. They are famously addressed in St. Paul's Epistle to the Galatians in the New Testament. https://www.thecollector.com/the-galatians-celtics/
