Temple of Lares at Largo di Torre Argentina
Located in modern day Italy, Rome. Also known as 'Temple D'. Dedicated to the Roman guardian deity Lares and build in 179 BC, most likely build in celebration of the victorious naval battle of Myonnesos against the Seleucid empire in 190 BC. The temple was part of the larger complex known as the "Largo di Torre Argentina" (not related to the country of Argentina.) which is most famously known as the location where Ceasar got assassinated. During the 1928 excavations, the ruins of Largo di Torre Argentina were rediscovered and the ruins of the Temple of Lares attracted feral cats in large numbers. In the 1950s, the Italian actor Antonio Crast frequently fed those feral cats and soon cat sanctuary attracted volunteers to take care of the cats in various ways including providing food & drink, sheltering & vaccination, an endeavor that has continued to this very day! https://corvinus.nl/2020/06/22/area-sacra-di-largo-argentina-2/ https://www.gattidiroma.net/web/en/a-little-bit-of-history/
