Tachanka
The tachanka is a horse-drawn cart mounted with a machine gun. Originally used in World War I, the tachanka's mobility and firepower made it highly effective in the fluid, fast-paced battles of the Russian Civil War. Both Red and White forces utilized tachankas, but they became particularly associated with the Red Army. Often drawn by two or four horses, the tachanka allowed rapid deployment of machine guns, providing mobile fire support and suppressing enemy infantry or cavalry. Its ability to fire while moving made it invaluable in the steppe regions, where open terrain facilitated maneuver warfare. Commanders like Nestor Makhno, a key anarchist leader, were renowned for their innovative use of tachankas in guerrilla tactics. Despite its effectiveness, the tachanka's prominence declined with the advent of motorized vehicles. However, it remains a symbol of the Civil War, representing ingenuity and crafts from the peasants. https://www.keymilitary.com/article/red-army-tachanki
