Suminagashi (墨流し) is a Japanese paper marbling technique. Literally, the word means “ink floating.” Swirling patterns, like those found in natural marble stone, can be created by dropping ink on the surface of water and then placing paper on top to lift the ink.
Ebru is the traditional Turkish art of creating colourful patterns by sprinkling and brushing colour pigments onto a pan of oily water and then transferring the patterns to paper.
