Shouko Komi (Komi San)

Shouko Komi, also known as Komi-san, is the titular character of the manga series "Komi Can't Communicate" which began as a one-shot in Shogakukan's "Weekly Shōnen Sunday" on September 16, 2015, and was later serialized from May 18, 2016, to January 29, 2025. The series follows Shouko Komi, a high school student at Itan Private High School, who suffers from extreme social anxiety and struggles to communicate with others. On her first day at school, she immediately receives an overwhelming surge in popularity due to her perceived beauty and elegance, but only Hitohito Tadano, a classmate, notices her communication difficulties.

Shouko's goal is to make 100 friends, and Tadano resolves to help her achieve this. The manga series revolves around her journey in befriending her classmates and later in her relationship with Tadano. Shouko is known for her glossy dark purple/black hair that flows to her lower back, a slender body, and an incredibly beautiful face. Despite her beauty, she is shy and timid, and her anxiety causes her voice to tremble when she speaks face to face with others.

Shouko's family includes her parents, Masayoshi and Shuuko Komi, her younger brother Shousuke, and her cousin Akira. Her father Masayoshi is her mother's husband, and her mother Shuuko is known for her youthful personality and beauty.

The manga series was collected in 37 tankōbon volumes, with the last volume released on March 18, 2025. An eight-episode live-action television drama adaptation was broadcast from September to November 2021, and an anime television series adaptation produced by OLM aired.
