獣人（けものびと）たちが暮らす国「セイラン」の宰相です。種族はキツネの獣人で、9本のふさふさな尻尾を持つ「フォックスリング」の生き残りです。「狡猾なる陰獣」というあだ名がついています。本当の王様である海賊王ロウエンが長い航海でお出かけしているのを利用して、お留守番中に国を自分の思い通りに動かしていました。過去の戦争で、同胞であるフォックスリングがたくさん命を落としたため、人間やエルフをとても深く憎んでいます。

🐾 本編での活躍・ストーリー

頭がとても良くて、人間やエルフに復讐するためにセイランと人間の国「フィリアス」の間に戦争を起こそうとします。エルフの女王様の暗殺を企てたり、フィリアスの王子様（カリス）に呪いをかけたりと、裏でコソコソと暗躍していました。アニメ版では、主人公のソウマの強い力を利用しようと、言葉巧みに近づいて味方にしようとしました。

いつもは余裕な態度をとっていますが、自分の計算が狂うとすぐにパニックになってしまう、心の弱いところがあります。アニメ版ではソウマたちに追い詰められ、クレハを人質にする卑怯な手を使います。最終的にソウマを捕まえて処刑しようとしますが、その直後、別の敵国（ベイルガルド軍）から突然飛んできた大砲の弾にドカーン！と巻き込まれ、呆気なく命を落としてしまいました。

🐾 Lore & Role

Shumari is the Chancellor of Seiran, the kingdom of beast-humans. He is a survivor of the "Foxling" race, characterized by his nine bushy tails, and bears the title "Cunning Dark Beast." While the true ruler, Pirate King Rouuen, is away on a long voyage, Shumari seizes control of the country's politics. Because many of his fellow Foxlings were tragically killed in past conflicts, he harbors a deep, intense hatred for humans and elves.

🐾 Story & Actions

Highly intelligent, Shumari uses his intellect to orchestrate a war between Seiran and the human kingdom of Philias to exact his revenge. He works in the shadows, masterminding the assassination of the Elven Queen and placing a curse on Prince Caris of Philias. In the anime adaptation, he approaches the protagonist, Souma, with honeyed words, attempting to manipulate him and use his overwhelming power for his own ambitions.

🐾 Fate / Ending

Despite his usually arrogant and composed demeanor, Shumari is mentally fragile and quickly panics when his plans fall apart. In the anime, after being cornered by Souma and his allies, he cowardly takes Kureha hostage. Just as he attempts to execute Souma, he meets an abrupt and anti-climactic end—he is instantly killed by a stray artillery shell fired by the opposing Beilgard army.
