The Mossback Wyvern is the gentlest soul in a family not generally known for gentleness. This is not to suggest the Mossback is docile — it is still a wyvern, still a draconic predator of formidable capability — but its temperament is calmer, steadier, and far more tolerant of the indignities that accompany life alongside humanoids. The Mossback’s saliva contains a mild paralytic venom — not lethal to humanoids in normal quantities, but sufficient to immobilise small-to-medium prey within seconds of a bite. The venom is delivered passively through the saliva rather than injected through specialised fangs, making it less dangerous in casual contact but thoroughly effective during feeding. Mossback keepers learn quickly to wear gloves when handling food near their companion’s mouth.
