Don't get sleepy now! 💦" -- Located in Turkmanistan, near Darvaza, The Darvaza Crater widely known as the “Door to Hell,” is a fiery chasm in Turkmenistan’s Karakum Desert. The popular census claims that in 1971, Soviet geologists drilling for oil accidentally collapsed a natural‑gas cavern, leaving a pit roughly 70 m wide. To prevent the spread of poisonous methane, the escaping gas was deliberately ignited; the blaze was expected to burn out but has persisted ever since.
