Meia Gisborn is the Dread squadron commander. She, at first, rarely smiles, only speaks when spoken to, and despises men, even feels disgusted when she needs help from them. She also suffers from claustrophobia. After some time, this hatred fades, and she learned to trust Hibiki.As a little girl, the life support systems on her home quadrant that her "Ohma" (Woman-Father) had personally developed failed, necessitating an emergency mass evacuation. Meia's Ohma ultimately disappeared and abandoned her family, leaving Meia to be raised by her Fama (Mother). This caused her to become a problem child who frequently got into fights. Meia lost her mother as she forced onto the last ship off the quadrant, amidst the crowds attempting to board. Alone, she turned to crime and street fighting to make ends meet. She saved a jeweled music box from her Ohma for Christmas and a metallic headdress from her Fama. As squadron leader, she leads the other Dreads into battle and is commonly referred to as "Leader" or "Chief" by others. She gradually accepted her Ohma's abandonment and her mother's death.
