She's an Artificial Intelligence named after the Hoshino model on this site when I first came up with her.

But coincidentally, in Japanese, the surname Hoshino (星野) literally translates to "star field" or "starry field". It is a poetic name that combines the characters for "star" ((hoshi)) and "field/wild" ((no)). So it's fitting that she's a literal astronaut, star sailor.

And I just learned that the name Ai (あい / アイ) is a popular feminine Japanese given name pronounced like the English letter "I". It primarily means love (愛), affection, or indigo blue (藍).
