The term Film Noir, meaning Black Film, was coined by French Critics who noticed an increased number of dark and moody films coming out of the states post WW2.
For some reason I have a deep love for the aesthetics of Classic Film Noir and the genre itself from the 1940s, in particular classic detective stories. There is something captivating about it. Everyone is always smoking and silhouetted by shadows. The single light sources are so incredibly bright but illuminate practically nothing. Someone is always looking through some window shutters suspiciously. In fact everyone is suspicious and its never ever daytime. Dames,Detectives and a Damn good time.
