Nami

Nami, also known as "Cat Burglar" Nami, is a fictional character in the One Piece franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. She was born 20 years ago as an orphan of war from the Oykot Kingdom and was found as a baby by Nojiko, who then brought her to Bell-mère, a heavily-injured female Marine, in the aftermath of a hostile battlefield.

Bell-mère adopted Nami and Nojiko, and the three became as close as any real family in Cocoyasi Village. Nami was introduced as a thief and pickpocket who possesses cartographical, meteorological, and navigational skills. She initially worked under the fishman Arlong but was eventually freed and joined Monkey D. Luffy's Straw Hat Pirates.

Nami's backstory is deeply rooted in her desire to protect her village and her adoptive family. Her passion and determination to save her town without burdening her loved ones are relatable to many eldest daughters. Despite her initial distrust of pirates, Nami eventually changed her mind after being around Luffy and the rest of the crew.

In the Arlong Park arc, Nami's past is further explored, revealing her hatred for Arlong and her desire to save her village. Later, during the Fishman Island arc, it was revealed that Jinbe, a member of the Shichibukai, was responsible for letting Arlong roam the East Blue, which led to Nami's suffering. However, Nami forgave Jinbe, breaking the cycle of hatred.

Eiichiro Oda has hinted at the possibility of revealing more about Nami's birth in the future, as he had previously written a story concerning it for the movie Strong World, though it was revised to fit a younger audience. Currently, One Piece is in its Final Saga, which may provide more opportunities to delve into Nami's past.
