とある辺境の村で、「獣神様」の御神体として長いあいだ祀られてきた巨大な獣型機神、それが獣刃機ヴォルグレイヴ。

普段は神聖な祠の奥深くに眠り、村人たちから畏れと敬意を集める存在だったが、その正体は人を乗せて起動する巨大兵器でもあった。

ある日、ヴォルグレイヴの力を狙う者たちによって村は襲撃される。逃げ惑う人々のなか、村の巫女である少女は最後の避難場所として獣神様の祠へと逃げ込む。しかし、追ってきた敵兵の銃撃を受け、その場で命を落としてしまう。

だが、そこで奇跡が起こる。

死んだはずの少女はヴォルグレイヴに「選ばれ」、機体の力によって甦る。そしてそのまま、獣刃機ヴォルグレイヴのパイロットとなる。

しかし、その復活は決して無償のものではなかった。

ヴォルグレイヴに搭乗し、起動するたびに、少女の身体は少しずつ獣へと近づいていく。

最初はほんの小さな変化だったものが、やがてマズルが伸び、全身に毛皮が生え、手足には肉球が現れ、尻尾と獣耳まで生えていく。

それでも姿勢は二足歩行のままであり、完全な動物へと変わるわけではない。

変化するのは、人としての身体そのもの。

そして最後には、もはや人間とは呼べない獣人の姿へと変貌し、自我すら失ってしまう。

さらに恐ろしいのは、ヴォルグレイヴとの契約が一度きりでは終わらないこと。

一度でも搭乗して起動してしまえば、身体そのものがヴォルグレイヴを求めるようになっていく。

離れようとしても、抗おうとしても、再びあの機体へ乗りたいという衝動が少しずつ強くなっていく。

ヴォルグレイヴは少女を蘇らせた守護神なのか。

それとも、人間を自らの獣へと作り変えていく呪われた神なのか。

村を守るために選ばれたひとりの巫女と、彼女を救いながら同時に人間性を奪っていく獣刃機ヴォルグレイヴ。

その戦いの先に待つのは、救済か、それとも完全な獣化か。

Beast Blade Machine (juujinki) Volgrave

Deep in a remote village, a colossal beast-shaped machine has long been enshrined as the sacred vessel of a deity known as the “Beast God.” Its name is Beast Blade Machine Volgrave.

For generations, Volgrave has slept deep within a sacred shrine, revered and feared by the villagers as a divine presence. Yet beneath that sacred image lies another truth: Volgrave is also a gigantic war machine that can only awaken when someone boards and activates it.

One day, the village is attacked by forces seeking to seize Volgrave’s power for themselves.

Amid the chaos, a young shrine maiden flees to the Beast God’s shrine as her last refuge. But enemy soldiers pursue her inside, and she is shot and killed before she can escape.

Then, a miracle occurs.

Though she should have died, the girl is “chosen” by Volgrave.

Through the power of the machine, she is brought back to life and becomes the pilot of Beast Blade Machine Volgrave.

But her resurrection does not come without a price.

Each time she boards Volgrave and activates it, her body changes little by little, becoming more beastlike with every awakening.

At first, the changes are subtle.

But eventually, her muzzle begins to lengthen. Fur spreads across her body. Paw pads form on her hands and feet. A tail grows from her body, followed by a pair of beastlike ears.

Even so, she continues to walk upright on two legs. She does not transform into an ordinary animal.

What changes is her human body itself.

With every activation, less and less of her humanity remains.

In the end, she will become a fully beastlike humanoid, no longer recognizable as human, and even her sense of self will eventually disappear.

Worse still, her bond with Volgrave does not end when she leaves the cockpit.

Once she has boarded and activated the machine even a single time, her body begins to crave Volgrave.

No matter how hard she tries to stay away, no matter how desperately she resists, the urge to return to the machine and awaken it again gradually grows stronger.

Is Volgrave truly a guardian god that restored the girl to life?

Or is it a cursed deity that slowly remakes humans into beasts of its own?

A shrine maiden chosen to protect her village.

A divine machine that saved her life while steadily stripping away her humanity.

At the end of their battle, what awaits her?

Salvation...
