Veyra wasn't born beneath the Northern Lights.
The Northern Lights found her.
According to legend, the aurora is more than light—it is the visible edge of an ancient celestial current flowing between the human world and something much older. For centuries, guardians were deliberately chosen to wield fragments of its power.
Veyra wasn't one of them.
One winter night, while escaping somewhere she absolutely wasn't supposed to be, she witnessed the aurora descend unnaturally close to the earth. Something within it reached toward her, and instead of running, Veyra reached back.
The light answered.
By morning, an iridescent star-shaped crystal had appeared over her heart, a tiny black fox named Yuki was angrily explaining several centuries of magical tradition, and Veyra had apparently inherited a job she had never applied for.
