Shot from a low, tilted angle at the foot of an enormous canopied bed, the camera looks up across the mattress at a single demon queen half-reclined against a drift of black silk pillows. The queen — one figure, alone, no one else in the room — lies on her left side: her left forearm is planted in the bedding to hold her torso up off the mattress, her left shoulder rolled forward and the elbow locked so the weight travels down through the forearm into the pillow, while her right hand rests flat on her own left hip where the gold filigree cinches the sheer silk. The background is thrown out of focus so its vaulting reads as soft dark shapes and bokeh points while she stays sharp.
The palette is closed and disciplined — midnight black-purple in her skin, deepest black in the hair, the stone and the hangings, one cold blue-white in the window light, and a thin gold in the filigree belt plus a warm candle gold on the near cheek — with a single saturated violet reserved for the eyes, which glow from beneath her lashes and throw the faintest violet sheen onto the ridge of the pillow beneath her chin. The whole figure is held together by a crisp white contour, a bright unbroken line riding her silhouette against the dark, brightest where her wing edge and shoulder cut the window light, and the same white edge picks out the spear tip of her tail. Depth of field is shallow: the bedding in the near foreground sinks out of focus before her hands, and the far arches soften away. Her lips are slightly parted over the grin, one corner pulled up around the small pointed facial anatomy. High-contrast cel shading with crisp borders, ominous and regal.
