She stood solidly at the edge of the path, like she’d decided that spot belonged to her and the world had simply agreed. Broad-shouldered and powerfully built, her gray skin caught the light dully beneath the armor, scarred in places where metal had failed to do its job. The shape of her ears—slightly pointed, heavy at the base—marked her as orcish even before the rest of her did.
