View detailsYurlunggur [@stardu-1 Color wheel contest 🌈]
This is part of @Stardu-1's color contest, this time themed around neon and serves as an overall capstone to my participation to the contest! The Rainbow Serpent is known by many different names across the various Aboriginal Australian cultures with Yurlunggur being the better known ones, other names include Kunmanggur, Galeru, Ungur, Wonambi, or Wollunqu , the earliest known depiction being 6000 years old. The first formal recording by Western scholars was made in 1901-1902 by anthropologist Baldwin Spencer. And finally in 1926, anthropologist Alfred Radcliffe-Brown gave this common widespread deity term of 'Rainbow snake'. The meaning of Yurlunggur as has changed throughout time and even context with many regional variants. but persistent across Australia is a depiction of a snake-like deity figure in rainbow colors with a creator role responsible for Australia's geographic features like waterholes not drying up in the summer being explained as rainbows as the snake itself between waterholes. Additionally Yurlunggur was also an enforcer through punishnebt, a guardian who would strike back against the defilement of sacred natural sites. The wrath embodied as torrential floods, violent storms and death. With later 20th‑century oral traditions and artworks reframing its destructive power as a commentary on the wrongs of colonisation. https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg15220540-600-flood-gave-birth-to-worlds-oldest-religion/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Serpent

A wide-angle, cinematic anime illustration depicting a colossal, ancient crystalline serpent intertwined with a gargantuan banyan tree. The scene is a medium shot capturing the overwhelming scale of the "Crystal Barrier: Rooted Giant Crystal Python Banyan." The massive, translucent crystalline scales of the serpent shimmer with iridescent light as it coils tightly around the thick, gnarled trunks of a prehistoric banyan tree, whose roots dive deep into a glowing, crystalline earth. The environment is a mystical, ethereal forest where floating crystal shards drift in the air and luminous flora glow in the shadows. The lighting is dramatic, with prismatic light refracting through the crystal structures, creating a palette of deep emerald greens, shimmering silvers, and vibrant violets. The atmosphere is one of ancient mystery and overwhelming power, with a shallow depth of field that emphasizes the immense texture of the crystalline scales and the rough bark of the tree.
