It was as if spring itself stretched endlessly alongside the tracks. The lights inside the carriage were warm. Warm enough that it became difficult to tell— whether they were traveling, or simply dreaming. --- Kasane Teto was the first to break the silence. Leaning back against her seat, she lightly shook the half-empty drink in her hand. “Hey.” She suddenly looked around at everyone. “If we weren’t heading to a competition right now… and this train ride was just a trip—” her eyes sparkled slightly. “Where would you all want to go?” --- A brief second of silence. Then— Kagamine Rin immediately raised her hand. “The beach!!” So fast it sounded like she never even needed to think about it. “I wanna go to one of those huge beaches with tons of food stalls and fireworks at night!” She became more excited with every word. “And everyone has to wear yukatas too!!” --- “You just want to have fun.” Kagamine Len laughed. But after saying that, he turned toward the window. Thought quietly for a moment. “…I’d probably want to go somewhere with nobody around.” “Huh?” Rin looked at him. Len leaned against the glass. “It’s not that I hate noisy places.” he said softly. “But sometimes… I want to go somewhere where you wake up and have no idea what time it is.” --- MEIKO laughed softly. “That sounds like retirement.” --- “Wouldn’t that be nice though?” Len replied immediately. --- KAITO watched the river outside. “I think I’d want to go somewhere snowy.” “A snow country?” Hatsune Miku asked curiously. KAITO nodded. “A place where the nights are quiet, and snow covers the windows.” He paused. “Feels like the kind of place where you can just… zone out.” --- “Why are all of your answers so quiet?” Teto laughed. “Traveling should be more exciting than that!” --- “What about you?” Miku asked softly. --- Teto’s eyes instantly lit up. “I wanna go to a gigantic futuristic city!” She immediately sat upright. “With holograms everywhere, giant screens, floating trains, and concerts that never end!” She spoke faster and faster. “I bet even the convenience stores would glow!” --- “That sounds more like somewhere you’d move into permanently…” MEIKO laughed. --- Megurine Luka had stayed quiet the entire time. She simply watched the scenery outside. The river. The cherry blossoms. The passing lights. It felt like the whole world was being slowly stretched by the train itself. --- “What about you, Luka?” Miku asked gently. --- Luka didn’t answer right away. She thought for a moment. A very short moment. And somehow, a very long one too. “I think…” her voice was soft. “I’d want to go somewhere you can stay slowly.” --- “Stay slowly?” --- “Yeah.” She smiled faintly. “Somewhere you don’t always have to keep moving.” “Just wake up, look outside, and do nothing.” She gazed at the night beyond the window. “And wait for the wind to arrive on its own.” --- The carriage fell silent for a moment. Not awkwardly. Everyone was simply imagining that place. --- Then— Kamui Gakupo spoke quietly. “Then maybe you’ve already arrived.” --- Luka blinked slightly. And turned toward him. --- Gakupo still wasn’t looking at her. Only at the flowing cherry blossoms outside. “Isn’t this train already doing exactly that?” --- The night breeze slipped softly past the window. Cherry blossoms reflected across the glass. And inside her softened gaze. --- Meanwhile— Mio and みお still sat beside the window together. They hadn’t joined the conversation. But they had been listening the whole time. --- Mio hugged her knees while staring at the cherry blossoms racing past outside. Her ears twitched softly. “I think I’d want to go somewhere with lots of stars.” she said quietly. --- “Stars?” みお turned toward her. --- “Yeah.” Mio nodded. “A place that’s really dark and quiet… where you can look up and see the entire sky.” She looked at her reflection in the glass. “It feels like… the world would suddenly become huge.” --- みお listened quietly. Then slowly turned her gaze back outside. “I think I’d want to go somewhere…” She paused slightly. “…where you can hear the ocean all the time.” --- “The ocean?” --- “Yeah.” みお smiled softly. “Not a tourist place.” “A place where even in the middle of the night, you can still hear the waves outside your window.” Her voice was quiet. “I think that would feel safe.” --- Mio looked at her. “Then we could go together.” --- みお blinked. “Huh?” --- “A beach with stars.” Mio said it like it was obvious. “That way we both get what we want.” --- A short silence passed. Then— みお couldn’t help laughing. “You’re really good at sneaking your own conditions in.” --- “Not true.” Mio laughed too.
