Canonically, Matt lost his parents when GUN attacked his village in search of a Chaos Emerald. This loss, even after his rebirth thanks to Shadow, continued to haunt him for years. Now, in this new world, on his journey with Maria in search of Shadow, something he never thought would happen occurred... He encountered his parents. It was a shock, as he knew they were his alternate versions, who had tragically lost their own Matt. This caused a great deal of emotional turmoil between them at first, but then... there was only genuine love, a bond forged by fate that reunited them across the vastness of space and time. But now, things are even better, as Maria is by his side, and his parents actually adore her and approve of their relationship.
