The lamp is the only light source, and beyond its pool the underpass goes to absolute black, with just the faintest wet reflection of the lamp on the concrete at her feet.
The palette is ruthlessly narrow and high-contrast: ink black in the suit, gloves, boots and belt; a hot saturated ginger in the hair; a vivid yellow in the eyes; pale warm skin; and a narrow sodium amber rim on everything the lamp touches โ nothing else admitted. Contour lines are thick and confident, and the volume comes from dense cross-hatching laid in flat black strokes across the shadow side of the suit, the underside of the jaw, the hollows of the gloves and the long shadow on the floor, the hatch lines tightening into solid black at the deepest edges. Detail stays medium: the face plain and simplified, the hair blocked into a few large shapes, the hands on the pistol and the gun itself the only places that hold fine attention. Cool, coiled, ready to fire.
