On the left side of the frame, a girl in red-and-white shrine maiden attire hovers inches above the drenched dark flagstones, her torso angled forward in a taut combat stance. Her long dark brown hair and wide red hair bow stream backward in the gusts, while white hair tubes frame her temples. Her brow is sharply drawn down, her amber-red eyes narrowed into an unrelenting, hostile glare directed straight at the figure opposite her. On the right, facing her directly, a smaller girl hovers at matching eye-level, her short periwinkle hair ruffled beneath a frilled white mob cap tied with a red ribbon. Two large, ribbed black bat wings arch outward from her shoulder blades, their leathery spans catching the wind. Her chin is held high, one hand raised with curled fingers, and her vivid ruby-red eyes bore back into the maiden's gaze with a fierce, defiant scowl. Thick diagonal sheets of rain slice through the gap between them, scattering fine water droplets across their faces and dampening the folds of their garments. Droplets striking the taut, outstretched surfaces of the bat wings instantly shatter into a fine mist, while falling rain creates expanding concentric ripples across the shallow pools on the stone pavement below. Diffuse, cool silver daylight filters through the heavy cloud deck, creating specular rim highlights on wet shoulders, glistening ribbons, and puddle surfaces. The palette balances slate greys, storm clouds, and dark wet cobblestones against striking accents of vermilion red, crimson irises, and pale blue. Tense anticipation.
