a fictional Yo-kai

I'm absolutely captivated by the intense duality in this piece—the quiet elegance of the kimono contrasting with the grotesque, monstrous fangs hidden behind the mask. It feels like a powerful metaphor for hidden identities and inner demons that I just can't stop staring at. If this caught your eye too, please leave a like and follow for more intriguing art!

1girl, solo, yokai, from below, close-up, curtain of hair, hair over face, bangs over eyes, eyeless, no eyes, blank skin on upper face, lower face mask, mask covering lower face, mask pulled down, holding mask, wide mouth, sharp teeth, needle teeth, open mouth, impossibly wide mouth, long tongue, reptilian tongue, forked tongue, tongue out, pale skin, kimono, high contrast, bold color blocking, graphic shadows, vibrant colors Viewed from below in a dramatic close-up, the female yōkai looms forward toward the viewer with an unsettling stillness. A heavy, opaque curtain of straight, raven-black hair falls directly downward from her crown to veil her entire upper face; where the dense strands part slightly over the brow, unbroken and featureless pale skin is exposed, devoid of eyes, eye sockets, or eyebrows. Fitted across her lower face is a traditional white lacquered half-mask, which her pale, sharp-tipped fingers grip at the upper edge and pull downward toward her chin. This displaced mask reveals an impossibly wide mouth split from cheek to cheek, unhinged into an expansive grin packed with dense rows of serrated, needle-sharp teeth. Thrusting forward between the bared teeth, a long, sinuous reptilian tongue whips and curls dynamically into the foreground, tapering to a subtle fork at its tip. Her fingers press firmly against the lacquered rim of the mask, creating tension in the fabric cords looped over her ears, while delicate threads of saliva stretch between the separated rows of sharp teeth. Gravitational pull draws the forward strands of her dark hair downward away from the cheeks, casting sharp, jagged silhouettes across the smooth, blank skin beneath. A harsh, direct key light strikes from the front-left, throwing clean, graphic cut-out shadows across her collar and beneath the unhinged jaw, while the surrounding field remains a flat, rich dark tone. The palette is strictly disciplined in punchy retro hues: stark paper white on the mask and skin, deep inky black in the hair, vivid carmine red throughout the oral cavity and along the curling tongue, and sharp teal highlights lining the edge of her dark kimono collar. High contrast anime style with vivid, saturated colors and a strong retro vibe, dominated by bold color blocking, graphic shadows, and sharp silhouettes, with a lively, poster-like energy that feels nostalgic, dynamic, and visually loud. Macabre dread.
