A low camera stares up at a single dragon from below, three-quarter view with the body canted into a slight dutch tilt so the mass of it bears down on the viewer. The creature is caught mid-stride forward: its near foreleg is planted flat and absorbing the weight, the far foreleg lifted and bent at the wrist so the claws hover a hand's width above the ground, and the neck is arched sharply downward, chin tucked, so the five horns sweep toward the lens. The key light is a cold, faint blue-grey ambient from behind and above, which leaves most of the black hide in shadow and defines the dorsal edge; the hot red light comes from within the crystals themselves, and it lands only on the surfaces those crystals face — a red pool on the shoulder tops, red streaks across the upper arm scales, red underlight on the underside of the jaw and along the throat where the red hide already runs, and a red glow soaking into the ground beneath each knee. Where the crystal light strikes the black hide it turns to a dark liver red, and beyond that pool the volcanic ground falls to black. The dragon's eye, half-lidded and narrow within the lowered head, fixes on the camera.
Contact points are exact: four claws of the planted foreleg bite the cracked ground with grit pushed up against their tips, only their lower halves bright with reflected crystal light, since the flattened ground faces upward and catches the glow while the vertical sides do not; the lifted foreleg curls in free air; the hind legs are braced behind and out of the tight lower frame, tail clear of the rock. Embers drift upward past the flank and a thin smoke curls off the shoulder clusters, sagging and rising in the crystal light. Palette is limited to black, vermilion red, and the molten red-orange of the crystal, with a single cool grey-blue ambient — nothing else. Detail budget goes to the horn arrangement, the crystal facets, the two-tone seam and the claws, the background reduced to darkness and ember flecks. Menacing, incandescent.
