On the left, the dark-skinned robot girl sits perched on an overturned supply container, leaning forward with rigid posture. Segmented metallic ball-and-socket robot joints articulate her shoulders, elbows, and wrists. Beneath straight-cut blunt bangs, her glowing purple optics shine with an unblinking luminescence, set in a completely flat, expressionless face. Very long black hair falls from beneath a red beanie, spilling over her shoulders and trailing down past her seat onto the crate. Her frame pairs a completely flat chest with curvy hips: she wears a sleeveless white crop top over a skintight black sleeveless leotard that cuts high over her hipbones, leaving her dark midriff and shoulders bare. Loose, voluminous baggy streetwear pants in slate gray are cinched at her ankles, decorated with tactical straps and metallic gold accents. Her hands are clad in black fingerless gloves, with a wide polished gold wrist cuff gleaming on her left forearm; one hand rests flat against her thigh while the other hovers motionless above the checkered board. Opposite her, a robotic cat-eared gynoid crouches tensely atop a footlocker, balanced on the balls of her mechanical feet with sharp metallic claws gripping the crate's edge. Her white and metallic chassis features pointed robotic cat ears upright on her helm, optical sensors glowing down at the board, and an articulated segmented metal tail curled tautly behind her. Between them sits a wooden chessboard with finely turned pieces, several captured pawns lying knocked over on the painted metal surface. Both players direct their glowing gazes steadily at the center of the board. A harsh diagonal shaft of warm afternoon light cuts through the tent's open entryway, catching floating dust motes drifting through the beam, throwing sharp geometric shadows of the chess pieces across the squares, and glinting off the gold cuff and polished steel joints, while the rest of the canvas shelter fades into cool olive and charcoal shadows. Calculated tension.
