💜💗💜💗💜 Story 💗💜💗💜💗 The following summer, the much-anticipated fireworks festival returned once again. As the evening breeze carried the scent of greenery through the streets, Megurine Luka stood at their usual meeting place, already dressed in her yukata. Lanterns were gradually lighting up along the festival stalls, while the tempting aromas of grilled corn, candied apples, and other treats drifted through the air. In the distance, the cheerful voices of festivalgoers filled the streets, bringing the familiar excitement of summer to life. Luka glanced at the time on her phone, a smile unconsciously appearing on her lips. Last year, she and Kamui Gakupo had walked along this very street together. They had tried their luck at goldfish scooping, admired the fireworks while holding hands, and eventually lit sparklers in a designated area. Those warm memories remained so vivid that it felt as though everything had happened only yesterday. And this year, she was just as excited to see him again. “Luka.” A familiar voice called from behind her. She immediately turned around and saw Gakupo walking toward her. “Gakupo!” She happily stepped forward. She had intended to greet him as casually as usual, but when she saw him extend his hand, she placed hers in his without hesitation. Gakupo gently clasped her hand, a warm smile appearing in his eyes. “Have you been waiting long?” “Not at all. I only just arrived.” Luka swung their joined hands playfully. “But I’m already looking forward to tonight.” “Because of the fireworks?” “The fireworks are definitely something to look forward to.” She paused deliberately before looking up at him and adding, “But there’s another reason, too.” Gakupo seemed to have already guessed her answer. Rather than asking her to explain, he simply held her hand a little more securely. “Then I’ll do my best to make sure you have a wonderful evening.” “You don’t have to try especially hard, you know.” Luka moved closer to him with a smile. “I’m already happy just being here with you.” They exchanged affectionate smiles before setting off along the lively festival street. Some of the stalls were different from the previous year. Several familiar vendors had returned to their usual spots, while new stalls attracted crowds of curious visitors. Luka enthusiastically looked around as they walked, occasionally stopping to admire something that caught her attention. Gakupo patiently matched her pace, accompanying her from one stall to another. When they passed a stall selling candied apples, Luka suddenly stopped. “We bought these last year, too.” “Yes. You even asked me why every single one looked so beautiful.” “Because they really are beautiful!” Luka replied matter-of-factly before pointing at one of them. “Let’s buy one again this year.” Gakupo purchased a candied apple and handed it to her. Luka took a small bite, then held it out toward him. “Your turn.” He leaned down and took a bite as well, letting the sweetness spread across his tongue. Luka watched him and couldn't help laughing. “It tastes just as good as last year!” “Perhaps because you have someone to share it with again this year?” “Both reasons are true!” Her immediate answer made Gakupo laugh, too. They continued walking, stopping at several more stalls to play little games and buy a few snacks to enjoy later. By the time the sky began to darken, their hands were full of treats, and an announcement from the festival organizers could be heard in the distance, informing everyone that the fireworks display would begin soon. Luka raised her head toward the sky. “Time really flies. We were doing exactly the same thing last year, wandering around the festival while waiting for the fireworks.” “And last year, you told me you hoped we could come back together the following year.” “I remember!” She turned toward him, her gaze softening. “That's why I'm here again this year.” Gakupo didn't answer immediately. He carefully rearranged the things he was carrying before reaching for her hand once more. “Thank you.” “Huh? Why are you thanking me all of a sudden?” “Because you remembered our promise and were willing to keep it with me.” Luka's expression softened. She gently squeezed his fingers, as though she wanted her answer to reach him through that simple gesture. “I wouldn't forget. As long as we can keep coming here together, I'll always remember.” They found a comfortable spot from which to watch the fireworks and sat down side by side. The surrounding lights gradually became softer, while the excited chatter of the crowd mingled with cheerful calls of anticipation. When the first firework rose into the night sky and burst into brilliant colors with a tremendous boom, the entire riverside was illuminated in an instant. Luka tilted her head back, colorful reflections sparkling in her eyes. “They're starting!” Gakupo watched her profile, illuminated by the fireworks, and smiled gently. “Yes, they are.” One firework after another blossomed across the sky, their brilliant colors reflected in the river below and transformed into countless shimmering patterns upon the rippling water. Luka occasionally pointed toward a particular burst, sharing her thoughts about her favorite shapes and colors. Gakupo listened patiently, sometimes offering his own opinions. When an especially magnificent firework bloomed overhead, Luka suddenly turned toward him. “Gakupo, do you remember what you said last year?” “Which part?” “You said that, more than the fireworks, the scenery you most wanted to see was me.” Gakupo paused for a moment before smiling with a hint of helpless amusement. “You remember that even at a time like this.” “Of course I do!” Luka blinked playfully. “I've remembered it ever since. So I wanted to know whether your answer has changed this year.” He gazed at her, the lights from the fireworks reflected in his eyes, and gave her the same sincere answer as before. “It hasn't changed.” A faint blush spread across Luka's cheeks, but she didn't look away. “Then I'll tell you something, too.” “What is it?” “Last year, when I watched the fireworks with you, I thought it was one of the happiest nights of my life. This year feels the same.” She moved a little closer and gently rested her head against his shoulder. “And as long as you're by my side, I'll keep looking forward to next summer, and the summer after that.” Gakupo slowly raised his arm and wrapped it around her shoulders. “Then let's keep making promises like that.” “Mm-hmm.” “Next year, we'll come back and watch the fireworks together again. And the year after that, too. No matter how busy our lives become, we'll remember to save one evening for each other.” Luka lifted her head and held out her little finger. “Pinky promise?” Looking at her earnest expression, Gakupo smiled and extended his own little finger, linking it with hers. “Pinky promise.” Their promise became another precious memory of summer, accompanied by the fireworks blooming across the night sky. After the display ended, the crowd gradually dispersed, but neither of them was in a hurry to leave. They strolled slowly along the riverside until they reached the designated area where they had lit sparklers the previous year. Luka stopped, her eyes immediately lighting up. “Gakupo! This is the place!” “It seems you've been thinking about this spot all along.” “Of course! Didn't we promise last year that we'd play with sparklers together every summer?” Gakupo took out the sparklers he had prepared, along with the equipment needed to light them safely. Luka stared at him in surprise before breaking into a delighted smile. “You prepared them again this year!” “Of course. I wouldn't forget something I promised you.” After checking that their surroundings were safe and making sure they followed the festival area's rules, they each picked up a sparkler and lit one. Tiny sparks immediately began to shimmer against the darkness, creating a warm, sparkling glow. Luka watched the light dancing in her hand with excitement before offering another sparkler to Gakupo. “Come on! Let's play together!” Two streams of tiny sparks met in the darkness, illuminating their smiling faces as they looked at each other. “Let's try drawing a heart again!” Luka suggested. “Last time, it took us several attempts before we got it right.” “That's why we have to do even better this year!” Standing side by side, they each held a sparkler and carefully moved their hands along the shapes they imagined. Their first attempt was still a little crooked. Luka burst out laughing at the result, and Gakupo could only smile helplessly as they prepared to try again. This time, they slowed down and coordinated their movements, carefully guiding their wrists together. When the two trails of light finally intertwined into something resembling a complete heart, Luka turned toward him excitedly. “We did it!” “Yes. It's much better than last year.” “Because we've improved!” She happily leaned into his embrace, and Gakupo naturally wrapped his arms around her. The sparks gradually weakened until only a few tiny points of light remained before disappearing into the night. They disposed of the used sparklers properly and made sure they were completely extinguished before returning to the nearby resting area. Luka nestled against Gakupo, reluctant to let the evening come to an end. “Let's do this again next year, okay?” “Of course.” “We'll explore the festival together, watch the fireworks together, and finish the evening by playing with sparklers again.” “All of it. Together.” Luka smiled and held his hand, intertwining their fingers. Last year, they had made a promise beneath the summer sky. This year, they had once again held each other's hands and turned that promise into another cherished memory. And when the next summer arrived, they would meet again. They would share sweet treats along the familiar streets, exchange smiles beneath brilliant fireworks, and let the tiny sparks of their sparklers illuminate their joined hands once more. For Gakupo and Luka, the most precious part of the summer festival had never been the festival itself. It was the chance to return to the same place with the same person year after year, confirming again and again that, no matter what the future might bring, they still wanted to spend every summer together.
