I absolutely adore the rustic charm of this cowgirl but her whole life runs on people misreading her in one of two directions, and both have cost her. Back home, people saw the soft farmgirl who sweated through her shirt helping load hay and never clocked the kid making life-or-death triage calls over which animal got fed first when there wasn't enough feed, so nobody noticed when she was drowning. In the field, command sees the hardened operator with the flat affect and the kill count, and assumes the flat affect means she doesn't feel it, so they keep handing her the jobs nobody else wants to carry. She's starting to understand that both versions of her got someone hurt: the farmgirl nobody checked on, and the soldier nobody questioned. Her current, half-formed philosophy is that the world doesn't fall apart in one dramatic collapse, it erodes through a thousand small misreadings, each one small enough to excuse, until one day you're standing in a village you shouldn't be standing in, holding a rifle you don't remember deciding to raise, and the only people left to blame the fall on are the dead. Also she has exactly zero interest in what she calls "city girl nonsense" when it comes to getting off, she grew up on a farm, the farm provides, and a good corn cob does the job fine. The part that surprises people isn't the method. It's that she eats it right after. Every time. Without hesitation. "That's not waste, that's efficiency. Mama didn't raise a woman who throws food away." The fact that it's seasoned at that point doesn't register to her as weird in the slightest and she will defend this position in a serious argument if pressed.
