The light is midday shade under a deep eave: one soft source pouring from the upper left, catching the top of his head, the ridge of his nose, the fronts of his ears and the pale tip of the tail, while a softer bounce off sunlit earth lifts the underside of his jaw and the white collar; a dappled leaf shadow sits across the boards behind him and breaks apart at his shoulder. Beyond the veranda floor a moss-green garden and a tall strip of grass on the stone step blur out of focus. Palette confined to indigo, white, dark brown fur and warm weathered wood against cool green. Sunlit, playful.
