A Little Bite of Autumn

Fuyumi, a cheerful fox girl with fluffy orange ears and a bushy tail, had prepared a pair of homemade autumn bentos for a peaceful afternoon picnic. Across the wooden table sat her best friend, Miko, a shy cat girl whose cream-and-brown ears twitched whenever the breeze carried the scent of freshly cooked food. Fuyumi picked up a heart-shaped piece of tamagoyaki with her chopsticks and held it out toward Miko with a mischievous smile. “Ahh, come on! I made this one especially cute!” Miko's whiskers quivered. She glanced at the heart-shaped omelet, then at Fuyumi's expectant face, her cheeks slowly turning pink. “Y-you don't have to make such a big deal out of feeding me…” But she leaned forward and accepted the bite anyway, her tail curling happily beneath the table. Fuyumi giggled, her fluffy tail swishing behind her. Around them, golden autumn leaves drifted across the picnic blanket while their carefully packed bentos waited to be enjoyed.
