The movie "Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo", The protagonist Kyoji Yabuki (Shutaro Oguri) is a detective with deep ties to the yakuza, usually indulging in drugs and gambling. He carries a large amount of debt and has been abandoned by his wife and children. The story is driven by Yabuki pursuing two bizarre serial murder cases, but in terms of experience, the movie begins with the first 30 minutes relentlessly depicting Yabuki's trashy and self-indulgent lifestyle. Speaking of Oguri, in the currently airing drama "LOST10" (TBS network), he also plays an insurance investigator who, while perhaps not "trashy," is quite suspicious; in both cases, his depiction as someone who isn't straightforward exudes a unique allure. Then, just as the story finally begins to move in earnest, FBI agent Nguyen (Lily James) appears, having come to Japan in pursuit of a certain person. She is by no means a righteous heroine. She has a very foul mouth, and the fact that she immediately concludes "this guy is my buddy" after talking briefly with Oguri in a smoking area already leaks her dirty atmosphere, visually making it clear that she is on the "evil" side. In fact, the investigation she is involved in is later revealed to be politically quite fishy, and it is suggested that she herself has some dark past that forces her to take on the job. Other main characters consist of yakuza associates, drug dealers, and drug addicts. The long-haired, equally suspicious dealer played by Shuhei Nomura almost seems to fall into the "kind-hearted" category in this city where evil thrives (the vacant feeling of this character is indescribably good). And what these people unfold is a world of relentless sekkusu & violence. As you know, the sekkusu & violence depicted by Director Miike is full of theatricality. There are too many to list, but the most impressive was the action scene using multiple cars near the end. During that sequence, a certain person is crushed to death between two cars; from a slightly pulled-back angle, the person being crushed is captured as if hiding in the shadow of the car, and after a brief pause, a huge spray of blood blasts upward from between the cars. It is a thrilling end that makes one laugh involuntarily. In that way, this movie seems to laugh off this world. It's not that this movie has no serious developments at all. Yabuki, played by Oguri, suffers from trauma over betraying and causing the death of a partner in the past, and in the latter half, triggered by a character's line, the question "What are you living for?" is repeatedly asked of multiple characters. However, risking a partial spoiler, Yabuki ultimately meets a truly blunt and matter-of-fact conclusion. The traumas and questions that appeared along the way vanish into thin air, along with the overcast sky and the crows flying there, which are shown once more near the end. Using a luxurious cast and setting while claiming "there is no meaning in this world," it is a movie that is simply enjoyable to watch. In an extremely positive sense, it is a film that makes one feel this is one of the greatest forms of "luxury."
