The bed takes the right third of the room, pushed against the window wall, a rumpled duvet heaped and half thrown back, one pillow flattened; the robot cat lies curled at the center of the duvet in a tight comma, its metallic chassis catching a thin pink edge-light along the spine and ear plates, a segmented tail wrapped around its flank, its eye-lights dimmed to two low amber slits, small vents along its back open, one forepaw tucked under its chin. Nothing else moves. The window fills the upper right: a tall pane streaked with rain, droplets beaded and running in wavering vertical trails down the outer glass, misting the view behind them. Beyond the glass the city towers go up out of the frame, stacked ledges and antenna spires, and two giant hologram advertisements hang in the air between the buildings, pink and cyan, translucent and slightly scan-lined, one a towering abstract figure mid-gesture, the other a wall of cyan glyph columns; the rain distorts them into soft vertical smears where the droplets bend the light. Light sources are four and each is accounted for: the CRT glow, cool green-white, low and frontal on the desk and keyboard; the fairy lights, warm amber, strung in two sagging loops across the ceiling and down the window frame, laying a warm rim on the duvet and the vinyl; the holograms outside, pink and cyan, raking in through the rain-streaked glass to lay faint colored bars across the floor and the bed's near edge; and a dim warm lamp behind the record player, the only local pool of shadow being the corner behind the crate and under the desk. The palette is a warm interior -- amber, honey, worn wood, dusty green plants, CRT green-white -- set hard against the cold blue-magenta-cyan of the city outside; the two temperatures meet at the window glass and fight along the bed's outer edge. The warm lights are the brighter in the room; the city is the brighter total. Rendering is digital anime art with a soft grainy lofi texture, gentle grain in the shadows and flat cel-shaded surfaces, no harsh speculars anywhere except the vinyl and the robot's chassis. The one piece of single-variable physics: the rain trails on the outer glass bend and compress the towering hologram behind them into vertical smears, sharp where the pane is clear and broken where a droplet sits, so the whole city outside looks lensed through water rather than pasted flat. Peaceful, still, late-night hush.
