jazz funk theme, album cover format, no humans, still life, 1:1 square composition, design piece, seamless studio sweep, from above, slight dutch angle, vintage 1970s soul-jazz record sleeve, alto saxophone, electric bass guitar, rotary speaker cabinet, sunglasses, vinyl record half-slid from its sleeve, faint drumstick pair, hard cast shadow, flat colour, screen-printed ink texture, paper tooth A square record-sleeve design piece photographed on a seamless deep aubergine studio sweep, shot from above with a slight dutch angle so the objects sit off-axis and the whole field tilts a few degrees clockwise. There is no scene, no location and no time of day: the aubergine ground fills the frame edge to edge, and every object in it is a flat-lay element placed deliberately. At upper left, an alto saxophone lies diagonally from the ten-o'clock corner toward the centre, its bell gaping toward the lower right, keys catching the light along their upper faces only; a worn leather neck strap is still looped at its top. Crossing beneath it at right angles, an electric bass guitar runs from lower left to upper right, its four strings and two pickups reading as clean parallel lines, its body partly overlapped by the saxophone's bow so the occlusion is unambiguous: saxophone in front, bass behind, the saxophone's lower body pressing a soft shadow onto the bass's pickguard. In the lower right quadrant a rotary speaker cabinet sits tilted on one corner in the dutch angle, its louvred front panel and single round horn opening facing up toward the lens, a coiled cable trailing off its top edge and out of frame. Between the instruments, a black vinyl record has slid halfway out of its printed sleeve, the disc's grooves throwing concentric highlights while the sleeve's mouth casts a hard-edged shadow across the exposed vinyl; a pair of drumsticks rests at a shallow angle across the record's lower half, tips resting on the sleeve edge, so their slim shadows fall unevenly onto vinyl and paper alike. A pair of dark sunglasses is laid near the upper right corner, lenses up and reflecting two small bright rectangles of the overhead light, one temple arm folded neatly under the other. Single overhead light source, hard and slightly warm, low and to the upper left, so every object throws a dense black shadow down and to the lower right, the shadows crisp-edged on the seamless ground and the darkness between objects fully black. Palette is strictly disciplined: deep aubergine ground, burnt orange, mustard yellow, cream and black, with the saxophone's brass reading as hot orange-gold, the bass body as mustard, the vinyl as black and the printed sleeve as cream with orange and mustard bands behind it; not one other colour admitted, and the shadows carried in the aubergine-black of the ground rather than in grey. Screen-printed flat ink look with visible paper tooth across the flat areas, hard cel-clean edges, slight ink offset where the orange plate sits a hair off register on the saxophone's bell, no gradients. At the top left of the sleeve, bold display lettering in heavy condensed cream capitals reads "JAZZ FUNK", sitting above a smaller mustard subtitle line that reads "MIDNIGHT GROOVE SESSIONS"; along the bottom edge, fine micro-text too small to read runs as a credit strip, deliberately illegible. Effortlessly stylish, hot.
