character: ruby_rose, yang_xiao_long, copyright: rwby 2girls, ruby_rose, yang_xiao_long, mermaid, mermaid tail, red tail, shell bikini, hot springs, birthday celebration, steamy water, from above, dutch angle, looking at each other, light smile, half-closed eyes, blush, wet hair, long hair, blonde hair, ahoge, purple eyes, short hair, black hair, red hair, multicolored hair, grey eyes, scales, red scales, yellow tail, seashell top, outstretched arm, holding hands, water surface, steam, reflection, underwater glow, warm palette, birthday cake, floating tray Shot from above at a slight dutch tilt, the camera looks down past curling columns of steam into a natural rock hot spring. Two mermaids float at the center of the frame, bodies angled toward one another in a loose V of rippling water. On the right, the blonde mermaid with a long loose mane of wet gold hair and a single ahoge drifting in the steam, purple eyes half-lidded in a lazy sideways look, reclines with her back against a smooth grey boulder; her yellow-scaled tail sweeps out of the water and folds across a submerged ledge, the fluke draped along the rock and dripping a thin thread of water back into the pool. Her seashell top is a pair of pale scallop shells tied with dark cord, sitting high on her chest with the wet shells beaded in condensation. On the left, the shorter mermaid with black hair tipped in red sits facing her, her red scaled tail curled in a bright ring that breaks the surface between them, the scales catching a deeper crimson just under the waterline and a hard vermilion above it. Her grey eyes are open and looking at the blonde mermaid, a faint closed-lip smile at one corner of her mouth, and one arm is outstretched so that her fingertips just touch the other's knuckle where a hand rests on the rock lip. A small wooden tray floats on the water between them, a tiny round cake on it with a single lit candle whose flame leans and flutters in the rising air, its warm light landing on the underside of the blonde mermaid's chin and along the bridge of the red-tailed mermaid's nose. The spring's light comes from the candle and the low warm spill of an unseen lantern off-frame right, so the rock walls fall to deep shadow at the edges while the center water holds a soft amber reflection. Steam rises in visible ribbons that curl around both figures and smear the far rim of the pool into a pale haze. Where the red tail's scales meet the air, each one holds a single bead of water, and the water surface directly above the candle flame shows a small trembling circle of light that no other part of the pool shows, so the flame is the only thing shivering the reflection. Palette is deep hot-spring teal under the steam, warm amber from the candle, the crimson of the red tail, the citron yellow of the yellow tail, and the paper-white of the shells and the drifting steam, with all other color held back to the brown-grey of wet stone. Intimate, celebratory.

They are arranged across two shallow rocky pools joined by a thin steaming rivulet, so none of them hides another: the pool in the foreground holds three, the upper pool holds three, and each fish tail drapes over the stone rim or curls in the water in plain view. Ruby Rose sits on a flat boulder at the near left, knees drawn up, her red tail with its dark gradient looping over the rock edge and its fin fanning out just above the water. Her short black hair with red tips is damp and pushed back, grey eyes catching the lantern light as she looks across the pool towards Yang. Yang Xiao Long leans back against a smooth rock at the near right, both hands braced behind her on the stone, tail submerged in the water with its tip breaking the surface in a lazy curl; her long blonde hair hangs wet over one shoulder and her purple eyes are fixed on Ruby with a wide grin, chin lifted. In the upper pool the other four are spaced along a curved ridge of mineral rock. Zhong Lanzhu sits at the far left, upright and composed, her long pink hair with its ahoge swept over one shoulder, one hand resting on her own tail where it curls up out of the water in a tight spiral. Miyashita Ai is beside her, turned half-round towards the others, her light orange tail flopping across the rim and its fin half-curled; one arm lifts in an easy wave. Mia Taylor sits at the right, light blue tail folded neatly under the surface so only its fin shows, her short blonde hair sweeping over one eye and her head tilted down towards the warmer water, hands cupped and raised as she blows on a curl of steam. Yoimiya sits between Ai and Mia, cross-legged against a rock with her ponytail draped forward over one shoulder and her purple tail coiled in the pool around her; she leans toward Mia with her lips puckered to blow the steam back at her, orange eyes bright. Each figure wears a shell bra whose shells take the colour of her own tail — deep red for Ruby, warm gold for Yang, rose pink for Lanzhu, apricot orange for Ai, pale ice blue for Mia, violet for Yoimiya. The shells are cupped against them, wet and glossy, the narrow bands hugging the ribs and catching a thin line of lantern light. Their tail scales run glossy under the skin of the water — a single variable of physics made visible: only the upward-facing curves of each tail catch the lantern light, the undersides falling to blue dark, and where each tail breaks the surface a ring of fine ripples spreads out and dies against the rock. The hot springs glow with the only warm light in the scene: a row of small lanterns along the terrace edge, which lights the steam from below so it billows white and gold, layering in front of the far ridge in soft veils. Beyond the pools the mountain drops into deep indigo darkness, and in it every figure is still faintly edged by a cool rim of moonlight from the open sky above. Steam drifts across the water, the rocks are dark and wet and mineral-stained, and the far pool's surface reflects the lanterns in doubled columns. The palette runs red, gold, rose, apricot, pale blue and violet against a cool indigo and steam-white ground, with the red tail and the red shell reading brightest at the near left. The wet stone under the lantern light is smooth cel tone with a hard shadow edge, and the only motion is the steam, the ripples, and the hiss of rising vapour near the springs. Still, warm, and quietly it feels like the pool has been holding these ghosts a long time.

copyright: new_game! 4girls, mermaid, multiple girls, shell bikini, seashell bra, mermaid tail, hot springs, onsen, playing with tail, splashing, water droplets, steam, wet skin, wet hair, sitting in water, half-submerged, outdoor bath, rocks, stone lantern, twilight, looking at another, smiling, laughing, twintails, purple hair, purple eyes, pink hair, double bun, blonde hair, messy hair, long hair, dark hair, side ponytail, from above, wide shot, high angle, vibrant colors A high-angle wide shot captures four young mermaid women gathered in a natural outdoor hot spring bordered by dark basalt boulders and swirling wisps of thermal steam. On the left, a petite mermaid with pastel lilac hair in low twintails leans forward over a smooth submerged stone, her hands planted firmly against the wet rock as she lifts her iridescent lavender and cyan tail high out of the water, gazing with wide violet eyes at the glistening water sheeting off her translucent fluke. In the center, a cheerful mermaid with bright pink hair in high buns sits half-submerged, laughing with an open-mouthed grin as she splashes vigorously, her shimmering coral-pink tail fin smacking the surface to send an arc of illuminated water droplets sailing across the pool. To the right, a taller mermaid with disheveled golden-blonde hair reclines lazily against the mossy outer rim of the bath, her elbows resting back on the damp rock; she offers an amused, sleepy smirk as her long amber-scaled tail coils lazily above the waterline, teasingly nudging against the emerald-scaled fin of the woman beside her. That fourth mermaid, slender with dark brunette hair swept over one shoulder, sits close with a flustered blush on her cheeks, one hand steadying herself on the pool edge while her other hand gently holds her own glistening green fin, watching the splash with warm, fond eyes. Each mermaid wears a pair of iridescent scalloped seashell bras bound with delicate pearlescent cords across their chests. Warm amber illumination radiates from a traditional stone lantern perched on the pool's edge, casting glowing rim-light along the rising steam, damp shoulders, and individual lustrous scales, contrasting against the cool twilight air. The crystal-clear turquoise water reveals dancing caustic patterns across the submerged volcanic stones, and concentric circular ripples spread outward from each flexing tail, breaking the pool's reflective surface into shimmering fragments. Playful and heartwarming.

On the left, a girl with voluminous, waist-length deep purple hair and luminous violet eyes leans back against a smooth, wet granite boulder at the pool's edge, resting her weight onto both palms flat against the warm stone. She wears a pale lavender bivalve shell bra, her midriff bare above a shimmering amethyst-purple scaled mermaid tail that sweeps forward through the turquoise water, its translucent tail fin cresting above the surface and dripping clear droplets. She beams with an open-mouthed, joyful expression and flushed cheeks, turning her head toward her companion. Floating closely beside her on the right, a girl with bright scarlet hair tied into twin tails with black ribbons drifts buoyancy-suspended in the warm bath. She wears a coral-red shell bra, her slender waist merging into a vibrant crimson and ruby-scaled fish tail undulating gently under the pool. Her left hand rests lightly upon the purple-haired girl's bare shoulder while her right hand dips into the water, fingers stirring delicate concentric ripples across the surface. Her head tilts slightly with an amused, half-lidded gaze from her ruby eyes and a confident, playful smirk. Thick plumes of white geothermal steam rise lazily from the pool, diffusing the soft morning daylight into a gentle glow. Underwater caustic patterns ripple across the iridescent scales of both submerged tails, while condensed droplets of mist glisten along their bare collarbones and the dark wet rocks. Playful warmth.

Two mermaids float in the mineral-rich water; the girl with long purple hair and purple eyes has a shimmering purple scaled tail that curves and swirls beneath the surface, while the girl with red twintails and red eyes has a vibrant red scaled tail that flickers in the water. Both wear iridescent shell bras. The red-haired girl leans forward slightly, her gaze locked on the purple-haired girl, who returns the look with a soft, blushing smile. The water is a translucent teal, clouded by thick, white plumes of steam that partially occlude the edges of the stone basin. Warm, golden light from hidden lanterns strikes the water's surface, creating bright caustic ripples that dance across the scales of their tails. The red-haired girl's long twintails drift lazily in the current, floating away from her shoulders. Tender and serene.
