character: kagari_atsuko 1girl, solo, kagari_atsuko, brown hair, long hair, asymmetrical bangs, ponytail, red eyes, crying, tears, streaming tears, insane look, wide-eyed, bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils, trembling grin, teeth, looking at mirror, reflection, mirror, goth dress, black dress, black lace, long sleeves, black choker, burnt skin, scorched skin, charred patches, blistered skin, soot smears, peeling flakes, close-up, from side, profile, dutch angle, dark room, candlelight, The camera sits low and close, tilted a few degrees off level, framing a single girl from the side at chest height so that both her profile and her mirror image are held in the same shot: the real girl in the near foreground at the left, turned three-quarter away from the lens, and her reflection in the tall mirror at the right, staring straight back at her. The mirror is an old freestanding oval on a dark wooden frame, its silvered glass going cloudy and speckled toward the lower edge, and it catches her only from the collarbone up. She has long brown hair pulled back into a high ponytail, the asymmetrical bangs falling across her forehead, strands of it stuck flat to her wet cheek where the tears have run. Her eyes are red, wide open and shaking, the whites pinked from crying, pupils shrunk to points; tears break from the lower lids and cut two shining tracks down through the soot, dripping from her jaw onto the black lace at her shoulder. Her mouth is pulled into a grin far too wide and far too still, upper teeth showing, a laugh and a sob caught in the same expression. The burnt skin runs up the right side of her face and throat -- the cheek drawn tight and glossy, dark red-brown going to black at the jawline, the surface cracked into fine pale fissures, edges of dead skin lifted and flaking, soot smudged along the cheekbone -- and the same charred, blistered patch continues across her right hand raised near her cheek, the fingers half curled, not quite touching the damaged skin. She wears a black goth dress: high collar of black lace closed at the throat, long sleeves of sheer black lace over darker fabric, a row of small black buttons up the bodice. Her reflection matches her exactly, but the mirror's face is the one she is staring into; her real eyes are fixed hard on the glass, her reflection's eyes fixed back at her, and the contact between them is the whole picture. A single candle in a tin holder sits on the dressing table at the mirror's base, low and to the right, and it is the only light: it strikes the mirror-side of her face and the lower rim of the reflection's cheek, throws a warm orange pool across the lace collar, and leaves the back of her head and the room behind her in absolute darkness, the candleflame doubled as a small bright point in the glass. Palette is almost entirely black and candle-amber, with the bruised red of her eyes, the wet shine of tears and the raw red-brown of burnt skin carrying every other colour. In the glass, the burnt side is dulled by the smoke-filmed silver, while the real skin in the foreground keeps its wet, tight, painful sheen -- the reflection always darker and softer than its source. Quiet dread, feverish.
