ginger dragon, dragon, solo, one creature, ginger root dragon, pale yellowish-beige scales, knobby ridged hide, fresh ginger root texture, small translucent amber horns, wide thin membrane wings, wing membranes like ginger rhizome skin, quadruped, resting on ginger root, claws gripping ginger root, from above, three-quarter view, close-up, head tilted up, looking at viewer, one eye closed, nostrils flared, small pale steam from nostrils, wooden table, scattered ginger root slices, warm dry light, amber and cream palette, high detail, no humans, no characters, no text Seen from above in a three-quarter view, a single small dragon the length of a forearm rests on a rough wooden table among fresh ginger root. Its hide is the colour and texture of unpeeled ginger: a pale yellowish-beige, dry and slightly papery, stippled with faint brown speckling where the skin stretches tight, and along its spine and the outer edges of its limbs the same flesh runs up into organic knobby ridges that bulge and pinch exactly the way a rhizome's fingers do. Two small horns, translucent amber, sit set back from its brow; the light passes into them and comes out warm and dim, brightest at the thin tips. Its wide wings are spread half-open and lie almost flat across the tabletop, and the membranes are the pale thin skin found under a broken ginger knob — near-translucent, faintly veined, showing the darker mass of the body through them where they fold over themselves. The dragon's forelegs are braced on a large horizontal ginger rhizome that crosses the lower right of the frame; its claws hook over the knobby ridge and the soft dry skin puckers and dents under each grip, and a fine dust of ginger flakes has been scraped loose where the claws dug in. Its hind legs are tucked under the hip on one side, weight settled back onto that hip and one hind foot, so the chest lifts and the neck rises at a diagonal toward the top of the frame. The head is tilted up and turned toward the lens; one eye is squeezed shut in a lazy wink while the open eye fixes the viewer, round and dark amber with a bright pinpoint of the light in it. The nostrils are flared, and a thin curl of pale steam leaks from one and disperses instantly in the dry air. The mouth is closed and pulled back a little at one corner, a self-satisfied lizard's smirk. The ginger is not decor but the terrain: unpeeled hands of it lie in clusters across the table, some slices cut clean and pale yellow on their exposed faces, and the dragon's body overlaps them so the near rhizome occludes the base of its left wing, while its tail loops out behind and its flattened tip rests on one of the cut slices. Directional warm light comes in low from the upper left, so the knobbed ridges cast hard short shadows straight down and to the right, the table's grain and its dust and its fine scratches are all visible, and the far side of the frame falls away into soft depth. Palette: cream, pale ginger yellow, warm brown speckle, and the amber of the horns and the eye, nothing else. The one physical detail that sells it: the wing membranes are thinner at the outer edge than at the root, so the light coming through them is brighter and more orange at the trailing edge and duller near the body. Playful, sun-warmed.
