A girl lies flat on her back on that concrete, the quadrilateral of light cutting diagonally across her body so her face sits half in glare and half in shadow. Her low twin braids and one braid splay out around her head on the floor, the blue-and-pink streaked hair pooling on the concrete; the lightning ahoge stands up against the shadow. Her x-shaped hairclip and blue hair bow are pushed askew, one hair flap crushed flat under her cheek. Both arms are wrenched up over her head, wrists gripped and pinned to the floor by a single heavily foreshortened arm that enters at the top-right corner of the frame and belongs to a face cropped out of the picture — one arm and a strip of clothing, no other face in view. Both her small hands are open and straining, fingers clawed at the air, nails biting into the concrete. Her blue eyes are wide and wet, tears escaping sideways from a face turned in profile against the floor, the light catching one wet cheek. Her blunt bangs are pushed up from her brow and struck with dirt. Her blue shirt has been torn open at the shoulder and collar, the fabric ripped clean with frayed threads, the blue bow hanging loose; the hood of the white jacket bunched up behind her shoulder blades. The black o-ring choker and the heart o-ring at its center are pulled tight and twisted to one side against her throat with no tension slack. Under the single harsh tube, a hard cast shadow of her body is thrown directly beneath her onto the concrete, unbroken and black, and the concrete's rough texture is bright with a fine dust and scuff. Her blue shorts are pushed up, the o-ring thigh strap on her left thigh skewed and biting into skin; she has drawn both knees up and apart as she twists, her lower body out of the frame. Her mouth is dragged open mid-note, teeth clenched, the whole frame tight and tilted, the overhead glare making the wet eye and the torn shirt impossible to soften; the floor is otherwise empty and worthless. quiet dread, helpless.
