Serene Mermaid in the Deep Blue

There's something so peaceful about this mermaid's expression as she floats in the tranquil water—it really draws me in every time I look at it. I loved capturing the way the light dances through the bubbles and her flowing hair. If you enjoy this dreamy underwater vibe, please hit like and follow for more art! I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

character: rodion_(project_moon), mermaid_(project_moon), copyright: project_moon 1girl, solo, rodion (project moon), long hair, brown hair, very long hair, blue eyes, mermaid, mermaid tail, scales, fin ears, webbed fingers, swimming, underwater, submerged, floating hair, hair spread out in water, bubbles, smirk, teasing smile, one eye closed, looking at viewer, head tilt, arms crossed under chest, arched back, from below, foreshortening, water surface above, god rays, caustics, dark teal water, best quality, masterpiece, best anatomy, From below, looking up through clear dark-teal water at a single mermaid drifting just under the surface: she is the only figure in the frame, suspended mid-swim, her body tilted so her shoulders sit lower-left and her tail sweeps up and away to the upper right, caught in a slow undulating stroke rather than a straight glide. Her face is turned down toward the viewer, chin tucked a little to one side in a slight head tilt, one eye squeezed shut and the other open and aimed straight at the lens; the corners of her closed lips pull up on one side only into a lopsided smirk, and the teasing smile reads in the lifted cheek and the half-lidded, knowing stare. Both arms are folded loosely under her chest with her forearms crossed and her hands resting one over the other forearm, fingertips barely touching her own skin, elbows drifting outward in the water; from this low angle the crossed arms foreshorten toward the camera. Her long brown hair is completely loose and floats upward and outward around her head in slow ribbons, individual strands separating and curling at their tips, some of it crossing in front of one shoulder and some drifting behind her head and out of sight behind her shoulders. Below her waist the mermaid tail replaces her legs, its scaled length continuing out of the top-right of the frame, the tailfin itself beyond the crop; a few small scales catch the light along the hip where the human skin meets the scaled flank. Fine translucent fin webbing shows at the outer edge of her ears, and thin webbing stretches between her fingers. Water is the whole environment: no horizon, no seabed, no shore -- only open water receding into blue-green darkness at the edges of the frame, with the bright underside of the surface rippling high above her as the only light source. Sun is the single light: it comes straight down from the surface, breaks into a soft wavering caustic net that lands on her face, her forearms and the top of her tail, and the undersides of her chin, arms and body fall into cool shadow; everything below and behind her fades into deep blue-black. A thin column of bubbles rises from near her shoulder toward the surface and small ones cling along the edge of her tail. Colour is held to brown hair, pale skin, teal-to-green scales, and the surrounding blues and greens of the water, with the caustics as the only warm note. Effortlessly confident, quietly teasing.
