More to See

2girls, 1boy, pregnant, pregnant woman, large belly, wet clothes, wet shirt, wet pants, soaked crotch, amniotic fluid, water breaking, clear fluid pooling on floor, blood everywhere, blood on hands, blood on clothes, blood on floor, blood splatter, sweat, sweat drops, sweat on forehead, sweat on neck, man in shock, wide-eyed, open mouth, panic, trembling, raised hands, distressed woman, pained expression, gritted teeth, furrowed brow, half-closed eyes, standing, barefoot, from side, profile, full body, indoors, domestic bathroom, tile floor, cold overhead light, dramatic lighting, tense atmosphere, composite Side-on profile view, full body, both figures held in one horizontal frame. On the left a heavily pregnant woman stands with her hips pushed forward, belly pulling the fabric of a loose light-grey cotton maternity t-shirt taut, weight sinking into her left leg with her right knee bent inward; white linen trousers darken in a spreading soaked patch from crotch down the inner thighs, the wet cloth clinging and translucent where it stretches over the belly. A clear rivulet has run down and pooled into a pale puddle between her bare feet, the fluid tracking along two grout seams of the tile floor in thin dark lines. She grips the tiled wall with her left hand, fingertips pressed flat, her right hand splayed low against her belly; her chin tucks toward her chest, jaw clenched, brows drawn, eyes squeezed half-shut, sweat beading on her temple and running past her ear. On the right the man faces her in three-quarter profile, shoulders hiked, his navy-blue polo shirt dark with sweat at the collar; both hands are flung up at chest height, fingers spread and rigid, one heel lifted off the tiles. His eyes are wide and unblinking, mouth open on a breath he hasn't finished, sweat drops standing out on his forehead, temple and neck, several sliding down; he stares fixedly at her soaked trousers and the puddle. Blood everywhere: a dark red smear down the woman's left pant leg from hip to hem, red-brown prints where her bare heel has stepped and shifted, spatter flecks across the white tiles and up the bottom of the wall, a glistening red pool overlapping the clear fluid and staining its edge crimson, and a wide blood patch soaking through the man's rolled sleeve hem where his forearm pressed the wall. Cold overhead light from a single fixture directly above drives hard shadows into the eye sockets and along the tiles, white kick on the wet fabric, deep red lost in the pooling shadow at the floor's far edge. Palette held to cold white tile, muted grey cotton, navy, khaki, and saturated blood red. The clear fluid's reflection of the ceiling light is softer and dimmer than the light itself; the blood's reflection is nearly black. Nervous, airless dread.
