Ninomae Ina'nis: Rainy Day Reflections

There's something so captivating about the quiet melancholy in this piece featuring Ina. The way the translucent yellow raincoat catches the light against the grey, rainy streets really highlights her unique charm. I hope this resonates with you as much as it did with me—feel free to leave a comment or follow for more!

She faces the lens but her head is tilted down and a little to her left, chin lowered, lips closed and pulled faintly downward at the corners, the inner ends of her brows lifted, eyelids heavy, and her bluish-purple gradient eyes look down and off to the side at the wet ground rather than at the camera. Her very long purple hair hangs heavy and darkened with damp, blunt bangs flat across her forehead and sidelocks framing her face, and the long orange-tipped hair flaps droop forward past her shoulders with their tips hanging down against the upper arms of the coat, their weight pulling them into slow wet points. The clear vinyl raincoat is the only thing she wears, and it hangs open down the front, its yellow-tinted transparent plastic catching the grey sky along every fold. Through it her bare skin is directly visible: her collarbones read as two clean horizontal ridges under the plastic at the open neckline, her slender shoulders round inside the loose shoulder seams, the faint vertical contours of her ribcage and the narrow inward curve of her waist show through the front panels, and the soft warm skin tones under the yellow vinyl shift and dim wherever the plastic doubles over on itself. The raincoat's sleeves hang loose past her wrists, and both arms stay down close to her body, her hands lost in the coat's cuffs at her sides. Raindrops bead in fat rounded domes all over the coat's outer surface, a scatter of them running down in short interrupted trails along the front panels and the sleeve, and each bead sits as a tiny hard lens that flips and miniaturises the skin and the grey street behind it; where drops have gathered the plastic sticks lightly to her shoulder and clings along the slope of one collarbone, and elsewhere the vinyl stands a few millimetres off her skin with a soft highlight running down the gap. The light is a flat cold overcast wash from the whole sky, with no sun disc and no hard cast shadows on the ground, and the only brightness in the frame is the sky's grey reflecting off the crown of her head, the tops of the raincoat's shoulders, and the standing water in the asphalt, where the wet road mirrors the pale sky in a long smeared band and the utility pole stands mirrored dark and broken beneath it. Grey concrete, wet black asphalt, the yellow of the clear vinyl, the purple of her hair and the orange at its tips are the whole palette, everything else held to desaturated cool greys; the background houses, their windows and their small signs are reduced to illegible soft shapes at the edge of focus. A faint mist of fine rain drifts between the camera and her, and the air around the street lamps and the poles stays dim and damp. Melancholy, quiet.
