The Charming Red Squid Girl

I'm completely captivated by the unique charm of this red-skinned squid character, gracefully drifting through the deep blue ocean. There's something so serene yet powerful about her presence that really draws me in, making me want to explore the mysteries of the sea alongside her. If you enjoy this piece, please give it a like, follow for more art, and let me know what you think in the comments!

More to See

solo, 1 boy, young male, red skin, monster boy, sea monster, squid, cephalopod, tentacles, eight arms, two long feeding tentacles, loincloth, seaweed loincloth, bare chest, underwater, full body, from below, looking up, mid-water suspension, drifting seaweed, bubbles, cold blue water column, sunlight from the surface, open mouth, grin, webbed fins, half-closed eyes, 1boy Full body seen from below and slightly to his left, a single young male squid-monster suspended mid-water in a deep blue column. His skin is a saturated brick red, smooth and taut over a slim adolescent torso, faintly nacreous where the light grazes it; the tapered mantle rises behind his shoulders into the water above his head, and eight arms hang from beneath it, paired and curling in slow S-bends around his hips, while the two longer feeding tentacles trail down past his knees, thinner and paler at the tips, each one flexing with a slight paddle of the flattened end. His human face sits at the front of the head: wide dark round eyes with the pupils larger than the iris, half-closed and angled up toward the bright band at the surface, one brow cocked higher than the other, mouth open in a lopsided grin that shows a rounded toothless gum line. A short seaweed loincloth is knotted at his left hipbone, its broad ribbon-leaves — damp olive, umber and dull amber — wrapping once around his waist and hanging in ragged layered strips to mid-thigh, three strands half-unfurled and lifted away from the body by the current, the knot pulled tight enough to dent the skin beneath it. His right arm is flung upward with the elbow bent, fingers spread wide and slightly splayed with a thin webbing to the second knuckle, as if he has just pushed off and is reaching for the light; his left arm hangs and drags a loose coil of water in its wake, fingertips trailing a thin spiral of fine bubbles. His legs are drawn up beneath him, one knee higher, feet not touching anything — nothing in the frame is solid — and the seaweed and the water's own drag, not gravity, decide how everything hangs. The environment is open water with no floor and no horizon: a single sunlight shaft cuts down from the top-right corner, catching the shoulders and the upper arm and the top leaves of the loincloth while his lower tentacles fall into cold indigo shadow, and every bubble is lit bright only on the side facing that shaft. Bubbles rising from a void far below look slightly larger and brighter than they should as they pass behind him — a trick of the same water. Background darkens to near-black blue at the frame edges; small particulate motes drift through the shaft, and a faint haze blooms the farther the eye goes. No other creature, no ship, no reef. Palette: brick red, damp olive and amber, and a surrounding column of teal and indigo — nothing else admitted. Style: clean cel-shaded anime rendering with crisp edge lines, flat opaque colour blocks and a single hard shadow tone, saturated palette, minimal texture, no grain. Playful and a little menacing.
