character: kuchisake-onna 1girl, solo, kuchisake-onna, black hair, very long hair, hair between eyes, long hair, medium hair, yellow eyes, black eyes, black jacket, black dress, black hat, hat, bandages, earrings, from below, looking down at viewer, dutch angle, close-up, head tilt, slit mouth, scar across cheeks, bandaged jaw, one hand raised, bandage-wrapped fingers, outstretched arm, reaching toward viewer, bare earlobes, hair completely unadorned, night, dark background, horror, blood-red light, shot from below, dutch angle tilted a few degrees off level, cropped close at the chest and head so the long black hair spills out of frame at both edges of the picture. She leans over the viewer from a low crouch, her weight settled on her back foot so the front of her body lowers toward the lens, chin tucked, head tilted so the left side of her face is nearer the camera; the crown of the black hat pushes toward the frame edge and its brim shades the upper part of her forehead. Her black hair falls in heavy straight sheets past her jaw to below the frame, one strand dropping between her eyes, and the fall of it is pushed slightly to her right by the motion of her lean. The mouth is drawn wide: the corners are split and the long slit scars run up both cheeks, closed over with bandage strips wrapping the lower face and the jaw, their weave frayed at the tear points. Yellow eyes, catching nearly all of the little light there is, look down the tilt straight at the viewer, pupils fixed and unblinking, one lid lower than the other. Her right arm reaches down toward the lens with the fingers spread and the bandaged fingertips pushed out of focus by their nearness, the sleeve of the black jacket falling back from the wrist; beneath the jacket a black dress, and the jacket collar stands open with the ears bare and the hair completely unadorned by any ornament. The only light source is a cold low lamp from behind the camera, raking up the underside of her jaw and the flat of the outstretched palm, so the bandage ridges cast thin shadows upward and the top of the hat, the shelf of her shoulders and the deep folds of the hair fall into a hard black; the background is a flat unreadable darkness with no visible surroundings. Palette restricted to black, ash grey bandage white, her pale skin, the two points of yellow in the eyes and a thin trace of blood red at the slit edges -- nothing else admitted. A single droplet at the low corner of the left slit catches the key light and holds it as a bright sphere while the bandage around it stays matte. Quiet dread.
