chibi, 2girls, gag manga style, super deformed, autumn, shrine, outdoors, little girl, child, black hair, japanese clothes, kimono, hair ornament, kanzashi, worried, anxious, uneasy expression, pink hair, short hair, shrine maiden, miko, white haori, red hakama, crouching, squatting, gentle smile, kind smile, closed eyes, headpat, hand on another's head, bamboo broom, broom leaning against something, from side, profile, full body, looking at another, :3, autumn leaves, fallen leaves, maple, stone lantern, torii Drawn in a square, gag-manga panel framing, a side-on view at the height of the two chibi figures, who face each other left and right across the middle of the frame. On the left, a tiny chibi little girl stands with her oversized head nearly a third of her body: glossy black hair cut in a blunt bowl with a straight fringe, a stiff gold-and-red kanzashi pin with dangling flower beads pushed into the side of her bun, her small body wrapped in a layered ceremonial kimono with a red-and-white-patterned outer layer over a pale under-robe, a wide stiff obi at her waist, tiny geta on her feet. Her shoulders are hunched up around her ears, both small fists balled at her chest and gripping the front edge of her kimono, knees pressed together and toes turned in; her brows are dragged up in the middle into a wobbling worried arch, her mouth is a tiny downward squiggle, and one large tear bead sits at the corner of her eye without falling. Her gaze is fixed up and to the right, on the shrine maiden's face. On the right, a chibi shrine maiden squats down low so her head is level with the girl's: short pink hair in a blunt bob with a straight fringe, a white haori jacket over a red hakama, the hakama's pleats flaring wide where her knees are folded, the hem pooling on the gravel. She is balanced on the balls of her feet with her heels lifted, one knee angled out; her right arm reaches across the gap and her open palm rests flat on the crown of the girl's head, her fingers slightly spread over the black hair, while her left hand steadies a fold of her own haori at her thigh. Her eyes are closed in two soft downward crescents, her brows tilted up at the inner ends, her mouth in a wide gentle closed curve, a faint blush dot on each cheek. Her chin dips toward the girl, and the whole lean of her torso is toward the left, into the pat. Between her lowered hand and the girl's head the hair is flattened slightly under the palm. Just behind and to the right of the shrine maiden's hip, a bamboo broom leans at a shallow diagonal against the low stone edging of the path, its long pale bamboo handle and the spread of dry twigs resting on the gravel, one twig bent out of line; a single fallen red maple leaf has caught on the bristles. The ground is a raked gravel path with scattered red and orange maple leaves, and behind them a low stone lantern and the vermilion base of a torii pillar sit in simplified flat shapes. Flat cel-shaded colour with bold black outlines, exaggerated rounded proportions, squash-and-stretch anatomy, dot eyes and blush, simple comic speed-line hatching radiating behind the shrine maiden's lowered face to sell the warm fuzzy aura of the headpat, a small bolder jagged burst shape behind the girl's head to sell her jittery panic. A large SFX lettering "なでなで" arcs in bold rounded hand-lettered strokes above the shrine maiden's hand, and a small shaky "しくしく" wobbles beside the girl's cheek, both set in black outline lettering that follows the panel's open space. Palette limited to warm autumn reds and oranges, the shrine's vermilion, the miko's white and red, and the girl's black hair on a cream paper ground. The light is flat and even from the upper left, no deep shadows, just a thin cel shade under the chins and the broom's twigs. Warm, comedic, tender.
