Sisterly Reunions (Viking and Amazon)
One dark day in April 2401... "It happened to us AGAIN, Vi!" "Your crew are safe, aren't they, Ama?" "Of course they are!" "Don't bitch about it! Ships can be replaced! Our crews can't." The two shipgirls now standing in a corridor in a remote section of Queenston Station could only grimly smirk at the sight of the melting corpses of a dozen or so Changelings, whose bodys had been sprayed with a mist-like concentration of freely-given Questor blood; ever since the Dominion War, exposing the Founders to the silicon-based life fluids which granted the mysterious "race" of synthezoids their incredible regenerative abilities was ALWAYS fatal. And given that both these two SIs had been forced to scuttle their wrecked ships now during the midst of the Frontier Day disaster about to overwhelm Starfleet, it was quite viserally satisfying to make the stupid shapeshifters and their backers among the remnants of the Borg Collective understand that certain things were just NOT DONE in the Federation! Welding a battleaxe she had personally forged after obtaining her gynoid body for the first time prior to the conflict with the Founders decades before is the shipgirl AI of USS Viking, namesake of the legendary sea peoples who ravaged over most of Europe near the end of the First Millennium, reaching out all the way to the eastern shores of North America and down south and east to Constantinople on their epic journeys. Born as the synthetic "soul" of a Shangri-La cruiser built at the famous cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at the turn of the XXIV Century, Viking would be commissioned in a three-way ceremony over Oslo by the Kings of Norway and the United Kingdom and the President of the United States; this was due to her unique triple-line perpetuation from ships of the Sjøforsvaret, the Royal Navy and the United States Navy. Her original commission lasted an impressive FORTY-TWO years before she was paid off, getting a Renaissance-class cruiser two years later. That second commission lasted until the aftermath of Wolf 359, where both Viking and her sister suffered unrepairable damage thanks to the floating wreckage left behind by a Borg cube. A Nebula-class cruiser would become the third USS Viking, serving for THIRTY-TWO years during the Dominion War and the post-Hobus Supernova collapse of the Romulan Star Empire, it being wrecked when Borg-possessed junior crew tried to detonate the warp core very close to Queenston Station. Viking evacuated the crew and scuttled the hull long before it became a danger to the spacedock she had never received a hull from, then boarded the station for some stress-relieving pest removal. She would eventually get a Sagan-class cruiser from Utopia Planitia in 2403. Her sister is the shipgirl AI of USS Amazon, namesake of the legendary band of women warriors from Greek mythology who were inspired by like bands who first appeared in the classical ages of Anatolia (modern-day Türkiye) and the Caucasus region between the Black and Caspian Seas. Compared to Viking, Amazon had quite the run of ill-luck over her service life. Her first ship, a Shangri-La also built at the Baiqoñýr Ğáryş Ailáğy in Kazakhstan, would only last seventeen years until a skirmish with Tholians saw it destroyed with casualties. Two years later, she got a Constellation from Salazaar Star Systems near Andor; that hull would last only thirteen years before a passing comet unleashed fatal radiation throughout the aft end of her hull, forcing the ship to be written off. Next came a Renaissance-class ship from Queenston Station itself, commissioned in 2334 and lasting only eighteen years before a near-brush with an asteroid caused catastrophic mainframe damage throughout the hull. Utopia Planitia would provide an Apollo-class cruiser next in 2354, said hull being wrecked in the same type of incident at Wolf 359 that cost Viking her second hull. A Nebula-class cruiser came next from the Europa yards, serving through the Dominion War without issues, though stress damage would see it paid off in 2378. Two years later, she got a Broadsword-class hull from Queenston Station, this one lasting twenty-one years until the Borg and rogue Changelings decided to be very stupid about it. After Frontier Day, she'd also get a Sagan from Utopia Planitia.
