Space Memories
## **Space Memories** The first thing she missed about Earth was the wind. Not the storms, not the rain—just the ordinary wind that used to slip through an open window and make her hair dance across her face. Out here, there was only silence. She floated beside the observation window, watching the stars drift endlessly beyond the glass. In the reflection, her ginger hair floated around her face, almost weightless. She raised one finger and drew a small heart into the thin layer of condensation. It reminded her of someone. Years ago, before the mission, they had stood together beneath a summer night sky. She had complained about the cold while he laughed and drew a heart on the fogged-up window beside her. *"I'll wait until you come back."* She hadn't realized how much those words would come to mean. Now, millions of kilometers from home, she touched the little heart again. Her finger lingered against the glass. For a moment, she imagined another fingertip touching hers from the other side. She smiled. The stars were beautiful, but somehow they had never looked as beautiful as the lights of home. And perhaps that was what memories were for. Not to keep us from moving forward— but to remind us **where we were going back to.**
